Annual Rosenberg Fête: Celebrating French Art of the 18th Century
Join the Dallas Museum of Art for the Annual Rosenberg Fête, a celebration of 18th-century French art inspired by the Michael L. Rosenberg Collection. This year’s program explores Rosalba Carriera and Africa’s Difference, offering a fascinating perspective on European art history and artistic representations of Africa.
Discover the richness of 18th-century art through this special lecture, celebrating the beauty, history, and cultural significance of the period’s artistic traditions.
Join Dr. Oliver Wunsch, Associate Professor of Art History at Boston College, for a fascinating exploration of Venetian artist Rosalba Carriera’s 18th-century pastel series depicting the Four Continents. Focusing on the personification of Africa, this talk examines how Carriera’s use of color, texture, and facial expression both reflects the racial stereotypes of her time and challenges them through the individuality and visual vitality of her subject. Discover how art, aesthetics, and evolving ideas about race intersected in 18th-century European culture.
