Talk will be predominantly in French with English translations or explanations as needed (Suggested level: B1 and up)
Follow the footsteps of famous Americans who created an émigré artists’ paradise in the south of France, proved that the best season to visit our destination was the summer, and not the winter, and who were the new kids in town during the Roaring Twenties, or “Crazy Years” as the French call them (“Les Années Folles”), an interesting period marked by an explosion of creativity and new ideals.
These “Lost Generation” Americans were the first ones to stay throughout the summer, enjoying the sun, building villas, yachts, casinos and hotels, often leaving the local French people puzzled by their extravagant lifestyles. They helped put Antibes – Juan les Pins on the map as a glamorous destination: Gerald Murphy, Cole Porter, Francis Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, John Dos Passos, Dorothy Parker, Gertrude Stein and many more...
