Résumé:

Sur le bateau qui le ramène en Corse, Orso della Rebbia, lieutenant en demi-solde, fait la rencontre de Miss Lydia, une jeune Anglaise de bonne famille. Mais à peine a-t-il foulé le sol de sa terre natale que sa soeur Colomba lui rappelle son devoir : venger leur père assassiné deux ans plus tôt. Saura-t-il rester digne de l'intérêt que lui porte Miss Lydia en résistant aux supplications et aux ruses de sa soeur, ainsi qu'aux provocations de ses ennemis ? Avec sa galerie de personnages hauts en couleur, dont la fascinante héroïne éponyme, Mérimée nous entraîne dans un récit de vendetta au rythme haletant.
