Join the Alliance Française of Dallas for a discussion moderated by Thomas Harms, on the topic of Food Sustainability, where we will discuss ramifications and implications in our day-to-day lives.

What investments, innovations, and/or mindset shifts will be necessary in order to address looming food challenges in Dallas, in Texas, and beyond? What do we need “More” of?
Five local experts will be sharing their insights on this complex yet exciting topic!

Rabekha Siebert, Urban Agriculture Coordinator at City of Dallas
Rabekha is a sustainability practitioner who works on solutions that produce equitable sustenance and improved quality of life for communities. As the City of Dallas’ Comprehensive Urban Agriculture Plan Manager, she works collaboratively to facilitate partnerships and develop a collective vision across diverse sets of stakeholders to promote building a resilient food system in the Dallas region. She is committed to regenerative agriculture models that serve the triple bottom line: people, planet, and profitable livelihood. Rabekha’s 13 years of food systems and sustainability experience include working in food systems across Europe, strategizing community resiliency through urban design, managing supply chains in the food industry, and advocating for legislative climate action on behalf of marginalized immigrant farmers. After finishing her thesis on “Building Community Resiliency through Sustainable Planning” at Arizona State University, Rabekha worked as a City Planner in Lafayette Louisiana. Now, working for the City of Dallas, she recently co-created and hosted the first Dallas InnerCity Growers’ Summit, also known as DIGS. Putting roots down in Dallas, Texas, Rabekha is raising a four-legged friend and a lush garden.
Meghna Tare, Chief Sustainability Officer, Office of Sustainability, UT Arlington
As UT Arlington’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Meghna works collaboratively to foster partnerships among academic, research, and operational departments and promotes sustainability in areas of energy efficiency, waste management, transportation, education, outreach, and sustainability-focused curriculum. She has expertise in UN SDGs, public policy, CSR, climate change, equitable food systems, transportation, conservation, and social impact. Meghna is the Founder and Director of Regional Center of Expertise for Education in Sustainable Development ( RCE North Texas), a program of the United Nations University, and the North Texas Food Policy Alliance. She graduated with an MBA in Sustainable Management, MS in Environmental Science, and MS in Chemistry.
Neil Kaufman, Assistant Director of Sustainability in Urban Agriculture. Social Responsibility and Inclusion at Dallas College
Neil Kaufman is the Assistant Director of Sustainability for Urban Agriculture at Dallas College. This is a new position that seeks to support the growth and management over the campus gardens and student engagement. Prior to coming to Dallas College, Neil was the sustainability manager for University Housing and Dining at UT Austin where he launched numerous campus gardens and UT Farm Stand, the nationally recognized student-led farmers market. Neil has a degree in wildlife biology from Texas State University. His background covers everything from wildlife conservation, botany, and climate science to composting, food production, and ornamental horticulture. In his spare time, he teaches composting workshops throughout Texas.
Andrew Stiver, Corporate Engagement Manager at Common Threads
Andrew is a native Texan. He started his career in the restaurant industry at age 15. He went on to study at Johnson and Wales University at Charlotte, North Carolina. After school he trained in many fine dining restaurants in Washington D.C., NYC, Birmingham, and San Francisco. In 2008 he moved to Austin, Texas to become Chef de Cuisine at the Restaurant Jezebel. During which time he opened and managed two other restaurant locations in Austin. After leaving Jezebel he started his own private chef and catering company, Culinary Innovations, focusing on locally sourced and hand-crafted food. After 8 years of success, he joined the project Vista Brewing in Driftwood, Texas, as the executive chef. There he built and operated the food and hospitality program and one acre farm on the property. In April of 2020 he left Vista to pursue his passion in food access, local food and sustainability, and nutrition education. He joined Common Threads as the Austin market Program Manager. Recently he moved into the resource development team as the corporate engagement manager for Common Threads. His goal is to build community and help create a more resilient, equitable food system through nutrition education, regenerative agriculture, local food systems, and healthy food access for all communities.
MODERATOR : Thomas Harms
Thomas has been the correspondent for several francophone radio and TV stations for 4 years in Texas. Covering everything good and bad that Texas has to offer to the world for Radio France, the Swiss Radio, Radio Canada, BFM TV and also for some print outlets such as Liberation. The main media he is working for is RFI, Radio France Internationale (a BBC like radio station , broadcasting in french and 17 languages, worldwide). He was a former anchor there for 15 years. He also has two Master degrees from La Sorbonne university in Paris in journalism and medieval history.
About the Night of Ideas:
Since 2017, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States have organized a series of popular cultural events called Night of Ideas (La Nuit des Idées in French). These events provide a lively arena for talks, debates, concerts, screenings, workshops, and other happenings. This singular event, held at night, aims to stimulate public interest in major debates of our contemporary world while also offering a range of artistic performances. Last year, over 100 cities in 70 countries took part in this global event, including 19 cities in the US. The event featured lectures, performances, screenings and more throughout the month of May 2022. Villa Albertine is proud to announce that the 2023 edition will be held during the first week of March 2023 and address the common theme "More?"
