The Soul of 19th-Century French Literature I IN PERSON

Step into the world of 19th-century French literature in this 4-week workshop, where the novels of Balzac, Flaubert, Zola, and Proust come alive. Together, we’ll explore how these writers mapped society, examined human desire and morality, and transformed the very way stories are told; from Balzac’s intricate social webs to Proust’s luminous explorations of memory and consciousness.
Each session combines close reading, discussion, and creative exercises, giving you the tools to engage with literature and experiment with your own writing. No prior knowledge of French is required; just curiosity and a love of great stories.
The class requires a minimum of 4 students for the full 2-hour session. If only 3 students register, the class will still take place but will be shortened to 1.5 hours. If fewer than 3 students register, the class will be canceled.
