About us

new logo AFWe are an independent, non-profit, cultural and learning center dedicated to the study of the French language, cultural exchange and friendship between Americans and all French-speaking people. We are part of a global network of Alliances with over 1000 chapters worldwide, promoting Francophone culture and cross-cultural dialogue.

Influential members of the Dallas/Fort Worth community founded l’Alliance Francaise du Nord du Texas in 1972. Famed retailer Stanley Marcus and Texas Instruments director S.T. (Buddy) Harris were among the original board members. Mr. Harris served as the first Honorary French Consul for North Texas. He held the post from 1969 to 1989.

Today membership in our chapter of l’Alliance Francaise grows each month. Members share passion for culture and language. We welcome all conversation levels, and participants often speak English as well as French and other languages.

The chapter hosts French films and supports events sponsored by other French groups. Our future plans include sponsoring additional cultural activities available through the international federation.

The chapter’s French language school was founded in 1985 and boasts a high student-retention rate. Classes are taught for seven levels, from beginning French through advanced conversation.
